Being in charge of the classroom -

how to be a teacher, not a fire fighter

Every teacher has to get the behaviour cracked if they want students to learn; but for many teachers, difficult children and classes can turn the best laid plans into rubble. Learn the best ways to deal with behaviour, from individual chair chuckers to demolition derby classes, using techniques that have been tested in the only place that matters- the whiteboard jungle. Tom Bennett, Behaviour Guru for the TES forums and author of The Behaviour Guru and Not Quite a Teacher, will show you the easiest and most practical ways a teacher can assert their authority, show them who's in charge, and create a safe space to learn.

This half day seminar in London on Saturday 29th September, 2012 includes updates on the law and you, and how last years Education White Paper affects what you can do.

1. The psychology of behaviour management
2. What would Fonzie do?
3. Asserting your status
4. Running a room
5. The Top Ten behaviour myths
6. The Education White Paper, the law, and you
7. The Top Ten classroom management tips

Each session includes the chance for you to talk about, and receive advice about your own personal behaviour headaches and goals. Behaviour management is something everyone can do - and it doesn't take a degree in psychology or group hugs to achieve. Come and learn how teachers hear themselves think.

Tom Bennett is our resident behaviour expert. He is a full time teacher at an inner-city London school, running the Humanities Faculty. He's written two books for teachers on behaviour management and teacher training, and has worked as a consultant for BBC3. In his previous career Tom ran night clubs in Soho, which taught him a lot about dealing with difficult customers!

£80 including VAT and registration fee

Registration at 10am - seminar ends at 1pm
